Floor Trends for 2017

Uncategorized | 14 December 2016

Innovations and technology grow every year, giving us opportunities to expand what is available on the market.

2017 is almost here, and it’s a good time to explore the upcoming trends in flooring while you plan your decorating and design projects for the next year. Atmosphere Flooring is here to help. Have fun with it!

Hardwood and Laminate Floors

Although grey continues to be a popular floor colour, more extreme choices on the light and dark end of the scale are also coming into focus. Colour preferences are moving away from red or orange tones for laminate and hardwood flooring.

Wide planks will continue to be strong, as well as a more casual approach with varying widths. Rustic distressed, hand scraped or reclaimed woods are on trend for 2017. Herringbone, chevron and a variety of other patterns are also growing in popularity.

Carpet Floors

While laminate and hardwood floors continue to be preferred in the main areas of homes, there is still an interest in carpet flooring for bedrooms and stairs. Softer, more luxurious fibres will be seen, with cut and loop, or sculpted patterns.  Colours will still be neutral with an emphasis on greys, as well as colour flecks.

Vinyl Floors

Sheet vinyl floor patterns are emerging which offer a more luxurious appeal. As a departure from the more common tile patterns, geometrics will gain momentum in 2017.

Luxury vinyl tile or plank will continue to grow in popularity and range of selection. The focus will continue to be wood-grain floor patterns, providing a waterproof alternative to hardwood and laminate flooring. Colours will follow the hardwood and laminate trend with grey continuing to be a popular choice, as well as extremes in light and dark colours.

Ceramic, Porcelain and Stone Tile Floors

Large format tiles continue to be seen, with the most popular being 12”x24”. Intricate patterns with colour mixes will gain in popularity for both floors and walls, as well as installation in patterns such as chevron, diagonal or herringbone.  Loft-inspired tiles mimicking concrete are on trend for 2017, as well as hardwood looks. Backsplash tile will see a resurgence in saturated colours. Think emerald green, cobalt blue, strong reds and juicy oranges. Light coloured marble or marble look-a-like tiles with colours such as Calcutta or Bianco Carrara will be installed in interesting patterns.
